Cao Qinglang (曹晴朗) is a prominent young Confucian scholar and cultivator affiliated with Luopo Mountain (落魄山). Originally hailing from the Nanyuan Nation (南苑国) within the Lotus Root Blessed Land (莲藕福地), Cao Qinglang grew up to become a direct student of Chen Ping'an.

Renowned for his exceptionally steady temperament, meticulous logic, and profound academic aptitude, Cao Qinglang perfectly embodies the idealized virtues of a pure Confucian scholar (醇儒). He successfully navigated the transition from a localized pocket dimension to the vast Haoran Heaven, eventually earning the prestigious title of Bangyan (榜眼 — Second Place) in the highly competitive imperial examination of the Great Li Dynasty.

Cao Qinglang typically presents himself as a mild-mannered, polite, and deeply thoughtful young man in a traditional scholar's green robe (青衫读书郎). In stark contrast to his senior sister Pei Qian's early boisterousness or his martial uncle Cui Dongshan's eccentricities, Cao Qinglang is naturally quiet, reflective, and observant.

Rather than merely memorizing texts, he excels at applying ancient wisdom to contemporary crises, analyzing the underlying intentions of imperial edicts, mountain-water gazetteers, and shifting geopolitical landscapes. History & Early Life

The Lotus Root Blessed Land

Cao Qinglang was born in the capital of the Nanyuan Nation inside the Lotus Root Blessed Land. During his youth, he received an extraordinary, albeit conflicting, dual education. On one side, he was taught by the Nanyuan National Teacher Zhong Qiu (种秋), who instilled in him a step-by-step, orthodox foundation of propriety and righteousness. On the other side, he was briefly instructed by the unpredictable exiled cultivator Lu Tai (陆抬), whose teachings were exceptionally profound and unorthodox.

It was during this time that he met the white-clad, sword-carrying young man, Chen Ping'an, whom Cao Qinglang ultimately chose to acknowledge as his true先生 (Teacher).

Entering the Haoran Heaven

As the Lotus Root Blessed Land underwent massive transformations, Zhong Qiu brought Cao Qinglang out of their home world into the broader Haoran Heaven. Remembering the principle that "a scholar's travels must have a direction" (游必有方), the master and disciple traveled extensively across the continents, personally drawing hundreds of maps to comprehend the vast new world and prepare for the impending apocalyptic war.

The Imperial Examination

Upon settling into his role as a student of Luopo Mountain, Cao Qinglang participated in the Great Li Dynasty's imperial examination. In a massive spring examination that gathered thousands of the brightest minds across the northern half of the Haoran Heaven, Cao Qinglang secured the title of Bangyan (榜眼). His examination papers were overseen and selected by prominent officials, including the examiner Liu Qingfeng and the room examiner Zhao You (赵繇), further solidifying his status as a rising star within the Great Li bureaucracy and the Wen Sheng lineage.

Cultivation & Abilities

Though Cao Qinglang initially focused heavily on mortal academics and governance, his steady state of mind naturally lent itself to profound cultivation progress:
