Moon in the Well
月Chen Ping'an's natal flying sword, capable of dividing into hundreds of thousands of blades to construct the physical framework of his localized domains.
Overview
Moon in the Well (井中月), originally named Moon at the Bottom of the Well (井底月), is one of the Natal Flying Swords (本命飞剑) belonging to the sword cultivator Chen Ping'an. Unlike typical flying swords that focus purely on singular, overwhelming piercing power, Moon in the Well excels in vast numerical multiplication and structural manifestation. It serves as the vital counterpart to Chen Ping'an's other primary natal flying sword, Caged Sparrow, filling the empty spatial domains created by Caged Sparrow with hyper-realistic physical structures, arrays, and overwhelming sword barrages.
Abilities & Powers
The flying sword possesses a unique set of innate divine abilities (本命神通) that scale dramatically with Chen Ping'an's cultivation realm and financial investment:
- Shatter and Restore (月照深井 / 碎又圆): The sword's foundational mechanic reflects its original name, "Moon at the Bottom of the Well." Operating on the principle of a moon's reflection in deep water, whenever the user's heart lake ripples, every draw and sheathe of the sword allows it to shatter and become whole again, transitioning seamlessly between countless fragments and a single blade based entirely on the sword cultivator's thought.
- Sword Multiplication (分化): The most direct manifestation of the sword's rank is its sheer quantity. By dividing itself into minute, distinct flying swords, it creates a massive swarm of blades.
- At the Gold Core (Jindan) realm, it could divide into approximately 100,000 swords.
- Upon reaching the Jade Pu (Yu Pu) realm, this number surged to over 400,000.
- At its absolute theoretical peak, pushed by sufficient realm and resources, it can manifest 1,000,000 or more flying swords.
- Domain Manifestation & Labyrinths (具象化 / 天地迷宫): Its second innate ability allows the myriad sword fragments to act as the "flesh and blood" or the "framework" (筋骨脉络) within a localized space. When synergized with Caged Sparrow (which provides the empty "shell" of a Small Heaven and Earth), the hundreds of thousands of swords construct incredibly complex, hyper-realistic environments, labyrinths, and arrays, turning illusions into tangible, lethal battlefields.
Upgrades & Evolution
Unlike Caged Sparrow, which requires the exceptionally rare Dragon Slaying Stone to upgrade, Moon in the Well's progression is primarily a "bottomless pit" of wealth. It demands the consumption of Golden Essence Copper Coins (金精铜钱) or shattered fragments of divine golden bodies.
As the sword consumes these high-tier resources, its rank elevates and its name conceptually changes to reflect its ascent:
- Moon at the Bottom of the Well (井底月): Its initial, lowest-rank state.
- Moon in the Well (井中月): Its standard, stabilized state.
- Moon at the Well's Mouth (井口月): An upgraded state requiring thousands of Golden Essence Copper Coins, vastly expanding its multiplication limit.
- Moon in the Sky (天上月): The ultimate, perfected form of the flying sword.
Known Owners / Wielders
- Chen Ping'an: The sole awakener and master of the blade. He often uses it in conjunction with talisman arrays, using the thousands of split swords to "dot the eyes" (点睛) of his talismans or to weave inescapable nets of sword qi against faster opponents.
Weaknesses & Counters
While incredibly versatile for area control and domain building, Moon in the Well is naturally countered by specific abilities that target mass manifestations. The most notable counter is the flying sword Biluo (碧落), owned by the sword cultivator Liu Cai (刘材). Biluo possesses the innate divine ability "One Sword Breaks Ten Thousand Swords" (一剑破万剑), making it the absolute bane of Moon in the Well's multiplication tactics.
