Chen Qingdu

Overview

Chen Qingdu (陈清都), universally revered and feared as the Eldest Sword Immortal (老大剑仙), was the supreme leader and spiritual pillar of the Sword Qi Great Wall (剑气长城). As one of the ancient sword cultivators who survived the primordial wars against the divine pantheon, he bore the immense burden of humanity's exile, standing at the forefront of the Haoran Heaven's defense against the Monster Race of the Manhuang Heaven for ten thousand years.

Possessing unimaginable sword cultivation and absolute authority over the Great Wall, Chen Qingdu was a pragmatic, ruthless, yet deeply protective patriarch to generations of sword cultivators. During the apocalyptic final war against the Manhuang Heaven, he chose to sacrifice his own life and Dao foundation, using his supreme sword to cleave the sky open, allowing the younger generation of sword cultivators and Feisheng City to ascend to the Five Colored Heaven.

Appearance & Personality

Chen Qingdu typically manifested as a seemingly ordinary, aged man, though his true presence atop the Sword Qi Great Wall was towering and suffocating to enemies. He was famously sharp-tongued, cynical, and unsentimental, frequently mocking the younger generations, visiting sword immortals, and even Confucian sages. One of his most characteristic habits was telling annoying or overly ambitious individuals to "die further away" (死远点).

Despite his cold exterior and his enforcement of a brutally meritocratic system where death in battle was the only honorable currency, Chen Qingdu harbored a profound, sorrowful love for his people. His every calculation and harsh decree was designed to ensure the survival of the sword cultivator lineage in a world that had historically ostracized them.

History & Role

The Ten-Thousand-Year Watch

Following the ancient war and the subsequent ideological schism that led to sword cultivators being labeled as "criminals" (刑徒) by the rest of humanity, Chen Qingdu led his people in exile to the southern border. For ten millennia, he sat atop the Sword Qi Great Wall, functioning as an insurmountable barrier. It was an established truth across multiple worlds that as long as Chen Qingdu sat upon the wall, the Monster Race could not breach it.

Mentorship of the Younger Generation

Though he rarely took formal disciples, Chen Qingdu constantly tested and subtly guided the greatest talents of the Great Wall, including Ning Yao, Chen Sanqiu, and Dong Huafu. When the outsider Chen Ping'an arrived and proved his mettle, Chen Qingdu recognized the young man's unique resilience and intellect. Following the betrayal of the previous Hidden Official, Xiao Xun, Chen Qingdu forcefully backed Chen Ping'an's ascension to the position of the new Hidden Official, trusting the young outsider to handle the tactical defense of the city.

The Final War and Sacrifice

When the mastermind Zhou Mi and the Tuoyue Mountain Great Ancestor launched their ultimate invasion, Chen Qingdu realized the Great Wall could not hold forever against the combined weight of half a world. In his final, supreme gambit, Chen Qingdu utilized his remaining lifespan and boundless sword intent to split the sky (剑开天幕), creating a pathway for the city portion of the Great Wall (renamed Feisheng City) to ascend to the newly forged Five Colored Heaven. He remained behind, fighting to the very end and dissolving into the Dao, ensuring his descendants would finally have a world of their own, free from the endless cycle of death.

Abilities

• Supreme Sword Dao: Chen Qingdu's swordsmanship was virtually unmatched in the mortal realms. Within the confines of the Sword Qi Great Wall, his combat power was functionally absolute, easily matching or exceeding a standard 14th-Realm cultivator.
• Absolute Authority of the Wall: As the architect and oldest surviving entity of the wall, he could manipulate its arrays, draw upon the lingering sword intent of ten thousand years of fallen cultivators, and suppress almost any entity that dared to cause trouble within his domain.

Notes

• Even in death, Chen Qingdu's shadow loomed large over both the Manhuang and Haoran Heavens. Powerful ancient demons like Long Jun remained wary of the possibility that the "dead" Chen Qingdu had left behind lethal countermeasures.
• He maintained a complex relationship with the Old Scholar (文圣老秀才) and his lineage. While he often mocked the Old Scholar and heavily tested his disciples (like Chen Ping'an and Zuo You), he ultimately trusted their lineage more than the orthodox Confucian Temple.
