Wei Jin

Overview

Wei Jin (魏晋) is a premier sword cultivator hailing from Shentai Peak (神仙台) of the Fengxue Temple (风雪庙) in the Baoping Continent. He is celebrated as the youngest Upper Five Realms (上五境) sword immortal in the history of the continent, having broken through to the Jade Pu Realm (玉璞境) at the age of forty, and later ascending to the Immortal Realm (仙人境).

Despite his immense talent and prestigious status, Wei Jin is most famous for his deep, unrequited love for the Daoist nun He Xiaoliang, a heartbreak that led him to seek combat and refinement at the Sword Qi Great Wall. He later returned to his home continent to serve as a guest elder for Chen Ping'an's Luopo Mountain and to defend Baoping Continent against the Wild World's invasion.

Appearance and Personality

Wei Jin typically appears as a handsome, white-clad swordsman who possesses a natural, unassuming jianghu (martial arts world) aura. He carries his renowned sword, "Gaozhu" (高烛), and a wine gourd. Despite being a high-ranking mountain immortal, he lacks the arrogant airs of typical cultivators, often treating mundane martial artists and ordinary people with respect and approachability.

However, his emotional life is marked by profound melancholy. Trapped by his feelings for He Xiaoliang, Wei Jin is known for drinking heavily to drown his sorrows. When he is sober or drinking lightly, he appears gloomy and lonely; when heavily intoxicated, he exhibits a spirited and charismatic flair. His authentic and unpretentious nature made him highly popular among the locals at the Sword Qi Great Wall, particularly among the women who felt sympathy for the heartbroken sword immortal.

Cultivation and Abilities

Wei Jin's aptitude for the sword is considered a once-in-a-millennium talent for Baoping Continent.

• Realm Progression: Guided by the legendary swordsman A Liang, Wei Jin broke through his bottleneck to reach the Jade Pu Realm at the age of forty. He later spent years at the Sword Qi Great Wall fighting demons, eventually breaking through to the Immortal Realm.
• Sword Intent of Zong Yuan: At the Sword Qi Great Wall, Chen Qingdu granted Wei Jin a sword manual belonging to the legendary ancient sword cultivator Zong Yuan (宗垣). Upon returning to the wall's ruins later, Wei Jin's pure sword heart resonated with the lingering sword intent of Zong Yuan, officially inheriting his four streams of sword intent without the need for traditional master-disciple formalities.
• Combat Prowess: Wei Jin's swordsmanship is extraordinarily pure and devastating. Before even reaching his peak, he was capable of cleaving apart a ghost domain with a single strike from miles away. He famously traveled to Beiju Luzhou to challenge the Heavenly Lord Xie Shi (谢实) twice, solidifying his reputation as a formidable combatant willing to seek out the strongest opponents to temper his sword path.

History

Early Ascendance and Heartbreak

Wei Jin was a solitary cultivator from Shentai Peak. After an encounter with A Liang—where they made a small bet resulting in Wei Jin losing a sword-nurturing gourd—he received critical guidance that helped him break through to the Jade Pu Realm. During a journey, he coincidentally rescued Chen Ping'an, Li Baoping, and their companions from the ghost bride Chu Furen by effortlessly slashing open her domain from afar.

His heart, however, belonged to the Shengao Sect's Daoist nun He Xiaoliang. Despite his status and talent, she firmly rejected his advances in the Nanjian Nation, stating that her feelings would not change regardless of his cultivation level. Heartbroken, Wei Jin traveled to Beiju Luzhou to cross swords with Xie Shi before heading to the Sword Qi Great Wall to temper his mind and sword.

The Sword Qi Great Wall

At the Sword Qi Great Wall, Wei Jin became one of the few outsiders granted the privilege of building a thatched hut next to the Boss Sword Immortal, Chen Qingdu. He fought fiercely on the front lines against the demon armies of the Wild World. During brief respites, he became a frequent customer of Chen Ping'an's wine shop, where his tendency to drink and lament his unrequited love made him a beloved, if somewhat tragic, figure among the locals. Chen Qingdu recognized Wei Jin's potential but constantly challenged him to break free from his emotional fetters and focus purely on his sword.

Return to Baoping Continent

When the war against the Wild World escalated, Wei Jin returned to Baoping Continent alongside Mi Yu and others. As Baoping Continent's premier sword immortal, he accepted a position as an unrecorded guest elder (客卿) for Chen Ping'an's Luopo Mountain.

During the Zhengyang Mountain viewing ceremony, Wei Jin made a dramatic appearance on a Dali ferry to support Chen Ping'an, declaring his name and title, which alone served as a massive deterrent against Zhengyang Mountain's ancestors. He subsequently participated heavily in the defense of the western regions of Baoping Continent alongside Beiju Luzhou's Bai Shang and He Xiaoliang, putting aside personal feelings for the sake of the world's survival.

Following the war, Wei Jin traveled back to the ruins of the Sword Qi Great Wall with Cao Jun, where he finally inherited the ancient sword intent of Zong Yuan, securing his path toward the highest peaks of swordsmanship.

• He Xiaoliang: The woman Wei Jin deeply loves. Her rejection became his greatest emotional hurdle, forcing him to seek combat at the ends of the world to drown his sorrows.
• A Liang: A senior swordsman who provided crucial guidance to Wei Jin, helping him break through to the Upper Five Realms.
• Chen Ping'an: A fellow native of Baoping Continent. The two share a mutual respect, having met early in Chen Ping'an's journey and later sharing many drinks at the Sword Qi Great Wall. Wei Jin later became a guest elder of Chen Ping'an's sect, Luopo Mountain.
• Chen Qingdu: The Boss Sword Immortal of the Sword Qi Great Wall. He saw great potential in Wei Jin, allowing him to reside nearby and actively guiding him to inherit Zong Yuan's sword manual.
• Zong Yuan: An ancient, legendary sword cultivator of the Sword Qi Great Wall. Wei Jin eventually inherited his pure sword intent.
• Cao Jun: A fellow sword cultivator who frequently accompanied Wei Jin after the war, seeking guidance and trailing him to the ruins of the Sword Qi Great Wall.
