Confucian Temple

Overview

The Confucian Temple (文庙) is the supreme governing authority and the orthodox moral center of the Haoran Heaven (浩然天下). Headquartered in the Middle Earth Divine Continent (中土神洲), the Temple wields absolute overarching power over the realm's nine continents. Rather than ruling directly as a secular empire, it regulates the world through a vast, hierarchical network of scholarly academies.

The Temple's primary mandate is to maintain the stability of the Haoran Heaven, enforce the boundaries between the secular world and the mountain cultivation sects, and defend humanity against external threats, most notably the Extraterrestrial Demons and the Monster Race of the Manhuang Heaven.

Hierarchy & Structure

The Confucian Temple operates on a strict hierarchy of sages, scholars, and academic institutions:

The Supreme Sages

At the pinnacle of the Temple's authority are the founding patriarchs and defining sages of the Confucian lineage:

• Most Holy Teacher (至圣先师): The absolute founder and spiritual head of the Confucian path.
• Ritual Sage (礼圣): The primary architect of the Haoran Heaven's rules and laws. He is highly pragmatic and often sits in the outer heavens to suppress ancient divine remnants, rarely interfering in minor worldly disputes but holding absolute authority in major crises.
• Sub-Sage (亚圣): The founder of the Ya Sheng lineage, heavily influential in the southern continents such as Nan Posuo Continent.
• Wen Sheng / Old Scholar (文圣老秀才): The founder of the Wen Sheng lineage. Though his statues were temporarily removed from the Temple following the defection of his first disciple Cui Chan, his status was eventually restored due to the monumental contributions of his lineage during the Haoran-Manhuang War.

The Temple Administration

Below the supreme sages, the Temple's daily and strategic operations are managed by:

• Temple Leaders / Deputy Leaders (教主 / 副教主): Such as Dong Lao Fuzi (董老夫子) and Han Lao Fuzi (韩老夫子), who oversee major continent-spanning assemblies and enforce Temple decrees.
• The Three Great Academies (三大学宫): The highest-tier educational and administrative institutions. For example, the Liji Academy (礼记学宫), whose Great Libation Chancellor (大祭酒) is the sage Lu Xi (吕玺).
• The Seventy-Two Academies (七十二书院): A network of premier academies distributed across the nine continents (such as Shanya Academy, Guanhu Academy, and Tianmu Academy). These academies act as the Temple's regional enforcers, educating scholars, advising secular dynasties, and monitoring local mountain cultivators.

Notable Members

• Dao Lin (道邻): Known respectfully as the "Great先生" (大先生), he is the scholar who possesses the first natal word in the human world and can hear the voices of the common people across the world.
• Xi Ping (熹平): A legendary "Jing Sheng" (经生 - Classicist/Scribe) whose mastery of text and scholarship is unparalleled.

Governance & Ideology

The Confucian Temple dictates the fundamental order of the world. Its governance includes:

• Deity Consecration: The Temple holds the exclusive authority to officially recognize and promote high-tier mountain and water deities across the Haoran Heaven. For example, the appointment of the Four Seas Water Lords (四海水君) and the elevation of major rivers to Continental Rivers (大渎) must be approved and sealed by the Temple.
• Mountain Rules: To protect mortal populations, the Temple strictly forbids high-level cultivators from indiscriminately interfering in secular dynastic wars or slaughtering ordinary humans. Violators are hunted down by Academy scholars.
• The Merit Forest (功德林): A special sanctuary and prison maintained by the Temple. It serves as a place where errant scholars, defeated rival patriarchs, or cultivators who have committed severe ideological transgressions are confined to study and reflect upon their errors.

History & Major Events

The Haoran-Manhuang War

When the Manhuang Heaven breached the Sword Qi Great Wall and invaded the Haoran Heaven, the Confucian Temple organized the ultimate defense and subsequent counter-offensive. During the monumental "Middle Earth Confucian Temple Assembly" (中土文庙议事), the Temple mobilized all major sects, dynasties, and resources.

Under the Temple's strategic command, the Haoran forces launched a counter-invasion into the Manhuang Heaven using four major Guixu (归墟) sea portals: Tianmu (天目), Qingji (黥迹), Shenxiang (神乡), and Rizhui (日坠). They established massive forward-operating ferry cities, such as Bingzhu, Zouma, and Dimai, reversing the tide of the apocalypse.

The Five Colored Heaven

Following the devastation of the war, the sages of the Confucian Temple expended immense merit and Dao foundation to forge a new, fifth world: the Five Colored Heaven (五彩天下). This world was created as a refuge for the surviving sword cultivators of the Sword Qi Great Wall and millions of displaced mortals. The Temple regulated the entry of foreign cultivators into this new world, carefully balancing the presence of Daoist and Buddhist factions.
