Lizhu Grotto-Heaven
骊珠A highly coveted minor grotto-heaven in the Eastern Aquarius Continent, formed from the remains of the world's last True Dragon.
Overview
The Lizhu Grotto-Heaven (骊珠洞天) is one of the thirty-six minor grotto-heavens in the Haoran Heaven (浩然天下). Suspended above the northern territory of the Eastern Aquarius Continent (宝瓶洲) and overseen by the Great Li Dynasty (大骊王朝), it is the smallest of all the minor grotto-heavens, encompassing a territory of only a thousand li in radius. Despite its small size, it is renowned throughout the continent as a premier cultivation testing ground and a cradle for peerless cultivation geniuses. Following a monumental heavenly backlash, the grotto-heaven shattered and fell to the earth, integrating into the Great Li Dynasty's territory as Longquan County (龙泉县), which was later elevated to Longzhou (龙州).
Geography
Before its descent, the Lizhu Grotto-Heaven was an isolated, self-contained world bounded by seas of clouds, physically inaccessible to ordinary outsiders. The terrain predominantly features a central small town surrounded by western mountains and crisscrossed by rivers like the Dragon Beard River (龙须河) and Iron Talisman River (铁符江).
The geography of the central small town is secretly structured to suppress the remains and destiny of the True Dragon. True Pearl Mountain (真珠山) serves as the location of the dragon's pearl (骊珠). A local creek and the town's main street act as the hidden and visible dragon whiskers. Fortune Street (福禄街) and Peach Leaf Alley (桃叶巷) respectively correspond to the dragon's neck and spine. Every grand estate on Fortune Street functions as a suppression talisman to prevent the dragon from raising its head, while the peach trees planted in Peach Leaf Alley act as "dragon-trapping nails" (困龙钉) driven into the creature's back.
History & Formation
The origins of the Lizhu Grotto-Heaven trace back approximately three thousand years to the end of the dragon-slaying era. The world's last True Dragon fled from the Middle Earth Divine Continent, making landfall at Old Dragon City (老龙城) in the south of the Eastern Aquarius Continent. It burrowed underground, carving out a "Walking Dragon Path" (走龙道) as it fled northward, ultimately perishing in this northern region.
The ancient cultivators and sages of the Three Teachings and Hundred Schools who participated in the dragon's subjugation suffered heavy casualties. Many of the survivors chose to settle around the dragon's remains. The lingering destiny and resentment of the True Dragon, combined with the scattered souls and artifacts of the fallen great cultivators, coalesced to form the Lizhu Grotto-Heaven. To suppress the dragon's lingering destiny, the sages established strict rules and erected the "Crab Archway" (螃蟹坊), officially known as a Sword-Suppressing Tower (镇剑楼).
For three millennia, the grotto-heaven operated under unique heavenly laws. It was utilized to forge Natal Porcelain (本命瓷) for the town's newborns, binding their exceptional destinies to physical objects. Eventually, the grotto-heaven reached the end of its lifespan. As it shattered and began to plummet toward the earth, the presiding sage, Qi Jingchun, chose to bear the brunt of the Heavenly Dao's backlash (天道反扑) entirely on his own shoulders, sacrificing his life and cultivation to ensure the survival of the town's thousands of ordinary residents.
Ruling Factions & Demographics
The Sages: The grotto-heaven was jointly overseen by the Three Teachings, who would dispatch a sage to sit watch over the town for a cycle of sixty years. The final sage to hold this position before the grotto-heaven's fall was the Confucian scholar Qi Jingchun (齐静春). Afterward, the blacksmith Ruan Qiong (阮邛) took over jurisdiction of the newly formed Longquan County on behalf of the Great Li Dynasty.
Four Surnames and Ten Clans (四姓十族): The internal mortal hierarchy of the town was dominated by powerful local families, including the Lu clan (卢氏) of Fortune Street and the Wei clan (魏氏) of Peach Leaf Alley. Many of these families were secretly founded by the descendants or reincarnations of the ancient dragon-slaying cultivators.
The Great Li Dynasty: The Great Li Dynasty acted as the external proxy and enforcer for the grotto-heaven. They controlled the dragon kilns and strictly managed the export of the Natal Porcelain, using it to control the destiny of the town's prodigious youth and fuel the dynasty's rapid rise to power in the north.
Notable Sites
- Dragon Kilns (龙窑): Over thirty kilns tasked with maintaining a "thousand-year unextinguished flame." For the True Dragon, the constant firing of the kilns was akin to eternal torture in boiling oil. For the townspeople, the kilns secretly forged their Natal Porcelain, determining their future cultivation potential.
- Old Porcelain Mountain (老瓷山): A mountain formed entirely from discarded, flawed porcelain. The shattered natal porcelains of local children deemed "unfit" for cultivation were dumped here, severing their connection to greater destinies.
- Iron Chain Well (铁锁井): An ancient well in the town containing mystical chains. It served as the crucial breathing point that kept the True Dragon's reincarnation, Wang Zhu (王朱), tethered to the world.
- Crab Archway (螃蟹坊): A towering archway bearing four plaques, including one reading "Do Not Seek Outside" (莫向外求) and another reading "Wind Generates Water Rises" (风生水起). It functioned as a major seal on the local destiny.
- Jia-Six Mountain (甲六山) / Dragon Ridge Mountain (龙脊山): A restricted mountain containing a massive fragment of the ancient Dragon Slaying Platform (斩龙台), highly coveted by sword cultivators across the world as the ultimate whetstone for their flying swords.
Related Events
- The Forging of Natal Porcelain: Every child born in the town had a piece of porcelain fired with a drop of their blood. Wealthy outside factions would purchase these intact pieces to secretly control or protect the peerless geniuses that emerged from the town.
- The Five Great Fortunes (五桩机缘): As the grotto-heaven neared its end, its concentrated destiny manifested into five supreme living fortunes tied to the True Dragon's legacy: a golden carp (obtained by Gao Xuan), a four-legged snake (obtained by Song Jixin), a fire dragon bracelet (obtained by Ruan Xiu), a wooden dragon paperweight (obtained by Zhao Yao), and a loach/water dragon (originally hooked by Chen Ping'an, given to Gu Can).
- The Fall of Lizhu: When the Heavenly Dao moved to crush the anomalous grotto-heaven, Qi Jingchun defied the heavens, catching the falling "pearl" of the world and taking the destructive backlash upon himself, allowing the town to safely land and integrate into the Haoran Heaven.
Notes
- The residents of the town, owing to the unique amalgamation of ancient cultivator souls and True Dragon destiny, possessed absurdly high cultivation talent. It was said that a child born to commoners in Lizhu had a higher chance of reaching the Upper Five Realms than the offspring of two Earth Immortal Dao companions from the outside world.
- The town served as a massive karmic testing ground engineered by Yang Lao Tou (杨老头), the incarnation of the Azure Boy Heavenly Lord (青童天君), to observe the natural flow of humanity and destiny.
